Cobweb's tail was badly damaged and has had to be been amputated,
but it would have far more serious if Poppy and Gizmo - shih-tzu
and Jack Russell crosses - had not come to the rescue.
Winner
Their action has got them into the final of the North West
Everyday Canine Hero awards, organised by Pedigree and Asda.
The public can vote for a regional winner by completing a slip
at Asda stores.
The pets, plus another dog and four more cats, live with Linda
Greenwood, her husband Jeff and their sons Tim, 21, and Daniel,
17, at Myrtle Earth Farm, Edge Lane, Higher Cloughfold, Rossendale.
Linda, who has a sandwich shop in Chadderton, said: "Cobweb
had a big, black furry tail like Basil Brush but I am afraid it
had to be amputated. All three dogs are protective of the cats
and they all get along famously."
Winners of the regional heat will be announced later this month.
Winners will receive £100 of Asda vouchers and a year's
supply of Pedigree pet food.
